Karl Lagerfeld is my favourite living eccentric. It was also my first introduction to Mila Kunis, who I think is gorgeous & super-funny. This movie also gave me newfound respect for Russell Brand, who is hilarious as Aldous Snow, playboy, lothario & British rock star. Of course, when he checks into the hotel, who could be staying there but Sarah Marshall… & her new boyfriend. He is instantly plunged into misery, until he’s convinced by his half-brother to take a trip to Hawaii. Jason Segel plays Peter, a composer whose famous girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (played by Kristen Bell), dumps him unexpectedly. Thankfully, movies came along instead… but isn’t that so funny?! So, one of the best things about this movie is that the Dracula musical is actually something Jason Segel worked on for years! Way, way, way before this movie was even dreamed of, Jason thought that staging & performing a Dracula musical was going to be the way he launched his career. The soundtrack is great too, & the movie features live performances by Letters To Cleo & Save Ferris. Instead, the “shrew” is a pissed-off riot grrrl, & her would-be paramour is Heath Ledger! Holler back! One of the highlights is aforementioned riot grrrl dancing on a kitchen table to Notorious B.I.G. To comb your noodle with a three-legged stool,Īnd paint your face and use you like a fool” But there’s no,īut if it were, doubt not her care should be This was my favourite movie when I was an angsty teenager! It’s a loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew set in modern-day Seattle, Washington. (Oh, I should warn you… I have dreadful taste in movies!) They always work to elevate my sucky moods, & I hope they will work for you too! They all give me a reason to smile & laugh. So, I’ve put together this quite ridiculous list of movies to watch when you’re feeling not-so-good. Whatever the case, sometimes you just want to indulge in a little escapism. Perhaps it’s just raining outside, like it is here today! Maybe you’re worried about your sister, or fighting with your husband. Perhaps you just got some bad news that has left you feeling slack-jawed & useless. We all have days that don’t feel quite right. It required a totally different situation, because of the other people on the team. “And it really did need to change, because we were building something way more difficult, which was Quake. “We were just these 20-somethings running a giant company that had done really well,” he says. Still, Romero acknowledges that communication often broke down in the early days of id Software. “People don’t know what it was like when we were working together.” Nobody had seen us together in anyone’s memory, so when they could hear us talking to each other, it was kind of a shock: ‘They’re not adversaries.’” The two Johns joked around, speaking with the familiarity of old colleagues. “It was funny when I had other people come into a Zoom call with John. In fact, Romero and Carmack had spoken at length during the book’s writing, chatting away on multiple fact-checking Zoom calls. “Only much later did I realise that Romero and I were at the nexus of a new era - the 3D game hackers.” “For years, I thought that I had been born too late and missed out on participating in the heroic eras of computing,” Carmack wrote. The latter praised Romero’s “remarkable memory”, and waxed wistfully about their shared impact on the gaming medium. That became apparent when Romero’s new autobiography, ‘Doom Guy: Life In First Person’, showed up on shelves with a glowing back cover quote from Carmack. Yet any lasting acrimony has now dissipated. Together, the pair built id Software and the FPS genre as we know it - before the cracks started to show during the difficult development of Quake, ending their professional partnership. “When people read anything, no matter the source, they will believe it.” So says Doom designer John Romero on the subject of his relationship with John Carmack. Welcome to Doom At 30: a week-long celebration of three decades of id Software's seminal shooter. Kliavkoff’s plan was to spend his first weeks on the job as Kumbaya George, visiting each school and taking meetings with all stakeholders, understanding old grievances so he could help break them down.īut three weeks into his tenure, the college sports landscape shook from an unforeseen blast - Texas and Oklahoma were leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.īut Kliavkoff couldn’t just go out and unilaterally fight for the Pac-12. With that experience, it was reasonable for Pac-12 presidents to think he would be equipped to handle their media rights negotiations.Īt the time he was hired, though, his most pressing task was mending campus relationships by showing schools that the league office cared about their various plights. Kliavkoff was an entertainment executive at MGM Resorts in Las Vegas when he landed the Pac-12 job, but he previously worked at Major League Baseball and NBC Universal around the advent of streaming. He maintained until his last days leading the league that it was well-positioned to reach revenue goals in its next media rights agreement, but he would not be the one to see it through. Morale wouldn’t have been an issue if Scott had backed up his promise to make the schools rich. Morale was down among Pac-12 athletic directors, who felt Scott was disconnected from campus realities, spending most of his time at the conference’s headquarters in downtown San Francisco. Sports Did Larry Scott kill the Pac-12? The answer is more complicated than you might thinkįormer commissioner Larry Scott’s media and TV deals couldn’t reach the success of rival conferences, depriving the Pac-12 of millions in revenue. This allowed Scott to constantly trumpet the Pac-12 as the “Conference of Champions” while it fell drastically behind its peers in the Big Ten and SEC in media rights distribution dollars and its self-created Pac-12 Network wallowed in relative obscurity. The league struggled in just about every facet other than the number of championships won in the lower-revenue Olympic sports. The Pac-12 hired Kliavkoff in May 2021 to clean up a mess that was the making of his predecessor, Larry Scott, and the conference’s university leaders. Stanford, Cal, Washington State and Oregon State are left to the whims of an industry that has become comfortable making momentous long-term decisions while under immense short-term pressure.įollowing interviews with dozens of sources within the Pac-12 and in other corners of college athletics during the last two years, this is the story behind the Pac-12’s collapse. Oregon and Washington are joining USC and UCLA in the Big Ten, while Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are headed to the Big 12. While the vote was assumed by many to be mere formality, it certainly could have gone the other direction - a theme that would emerge time and again on the Pac-12’s road to ruin. 14, the UC Regents met and voted 11 to 5 to approve the Bruins’ exit to the Big Ten. Kliavkoff declined to comment on the negotiations that played out quietly behind the scenes. He said he would not have the Ducks in a conference where they have to take less money than UCLA, and any conversation about the possibility quickly died. When Kliavkoff presented the idea to the Pac-12 board, Oregon interim president Patrick Phillips vehemently shut it down. If he could guarantee the Bruins $52 million annually during the five years of the league’s next media deal, the regents promised Kliavkoff a vote heavily in favor of UCLA staying in the Pac-12. So, the regents gave Kliavkoff a magic number. The Bruins’ travel costs to compete in the Midwest-based conference were expected to be in the range of $10 million to $12 million annually. UCLA was supposed to make $62 million per year from the Big Ten’s new mega media rights deal. Privately, Kliavkoff was deeply engaged with a small group of regents about the framework of a deal that would lead to the regents voting to block UCLA’s move - even though the regents did not want to set a precedent of overturning a monumental campus-specific decision. Publicly, the University of California Board of Regents’ threats to force UCLA to stay in the Pac-12 and avoid hurting UC Berkeley were viewed as posturing, bluffs to get attention and possibly some money from the departing Bruins. UCLA’s Chip Kelly came up with an idea to help rescue college football from it’s money-grubbing self, but it’s too logical for the sport’s power brokers. One Piece season 1 already showed off some of the powers one can get from a Devil Fruit, such as Luffy's stretching abilities, which he obtained from the Gum-Gum Fruit. With One Piece's anime and manga series still ongoing, it's debatable which Devil Fruit is the strongest, but each Devil Fruits' ability to grant its eater a random power has made for some fascinating results. Despite the abilities one gains from consuming a Devil Fruit, the effects of the Devil Fruits' powers as well as losing the ability to swim are permanent, and an individual can only survive eating one Devil Fruit at a time. Devil Fruits are mysterious and distinctive fruits that grant anyone who consumes them unique and supernatural abilities, while simultaneously robbing them of their ability to swim. Netflix's One Piece showcased some of the anime's strongest Devil Fruits, but with so many arcs left for the show to cover, there are plenty more to look forward to as the story progresses. 1's Supa-Supa no Mi Devil Fruit allows parts of his body to transform into razor-edged blades, making him one of the strongest members of Baroque Works. Zala's Toge-Toge no Mi Devil Fruit allows her to turn parts of her body into spikes, making it difficult for opponents to land a clean attack on her. Pell's Tori-Tori no Mi Devil Fruit grants him the ability to turn into a giant falcon, increasing his speed and strength in battle. While the freemium elements providing a glorified paywall after a short amount of time is a little on the annoying side, this is a good stopgap for people who are tired of slaying the God King, and need something to do while they wait for Infinity Blade 2. But Infinity Blade was quite fun, and Blood and Glory follows a similar path to feature similarly entertaining gameplay. Sure, it's basically Infinity Blade wrapped up in a Glu freemium shell. While making some items expensive is par for the course for other freemium Glu games and is perfectly fine with me, making potions only available through credits that are sparingly given out in-game does not sit well with me. In fact, a lot of money will need to be spent in order to explore the game's depths, especially with tournaments that cost large amounts of gems to get in. Also, this game will be very difficult to play for free for a long time, as potions are only available through the in-app credits system. However, principally, it's about the same, and more differences in gameplay to make it its own game would have been appreciated. While unlike the Ninja Fishing controversy, no one is going to be weeping for Epic and ChAIR Entertainment, especially as they've reportedly made over $20 million from Infinity Blade. While it's structurally different, the gameplay cuts close enough that it actually is on that line of being a clone. The game would have done well to differentiate its product a bit more than as it currently stands. Plenty of interesting armor and weapons are available despite the concept of this game being ever-so-slightly more grounded in reality, including one shield that would make Ed Gein proud. The game does look really good on the iPad and Retina Display. At least potions, while not exactly cheap to acquire, can be used mid-match as well. Without magic spells, and with smaller parrying windows than its progenitor, it proves to be far more difficult. They can be acquired through leveling up, by completing Tapjoy offers, and by purchasing them.īlood and Glory may be familiar, but the gameplay does work well here, and actually provides more of a challenge. Rubies serve as this game's credits, being used to buy coins, special items, and potions for healing and stat buffing. Fights are set up as part of tournament ladders, where players must defeat several opponents in a row to win, getting coins to spend on new items like weapons, shields, and helmets. The gameplay is similar, if not identical players stand in one-on-one arenas against a gladiatorial opponent, dodging, defending, and parrying attacks in order to stun the enemy to unleash combos upon them. ANAFI USA flight plans can be programmed by navigation coordinates, for assisted or fully autonomous flights. Assisted by FreeFlight 6, Parrot's proven pilot application, they have a full suite of flight options. RobustĪNAFI USA's advanced flight features are designed to meet the unique requirements of professional drone users. The drone's functionality complies with the rules of the RGPD, the European regulation on the protection of personal data. Once this feature is enabled and consent is given, flight data and logs are stored on secure servers in Europe, in addition to the copies kept locally on the drone. By default, data is not shared user consent is required. Users can opt to share their data via the FreeFlight 6 application. Parrot has chosen open standards and protocols (including Wi-Fi, WPA2, RTP/RTSP, H.264 and GUTMA) to ensure trust and interoperability of recorded data. An encryption key is then the only way to access this data.ĪNAFI USA also has a secure connection using the WPA2 protocol between the controller and the drone.īefore updating a new firmware, a verification of its digital signature is required, which prevents possible malicious attempts to modify the drone software. The photos and videos taken by the drone are stored in an encrypted and ultra-secure manner on its SD (Secure Digital) card, based on an AES-XTS algorithm (512-bit key length), so that they cannot be read if the SD card or drone is lost. The ANAFI USA drone puts safety first for professional users. Moreover, with its 3 batteries included in the pack, ANAFI USA offers a total of 1.5 hours of flight time for a drone weighing less than 1 kg. With its small and compact size, it has an autonomy of 32 minutes in terms of flight time, the best in its category. Weighing only 500g, ANAFI USA is easy to fold for maximum portability. It works with a standard USB type C charger for total ease of use. When discretion is a key mission priority, ANAFI USA offers the ability to fly silently and see incredible detail from a distance with its 32x zoom. This drone is the quietest in its class, with a noise level of only 79 dB when 50 cm above the ground. With no native no-fly zone restrictions, ANAFI USA gives its operators the freedom to take off as soon as necessary, regardless of the mission, while taking responsibility for the area covered. This new drone is so maneuverable that it can also take off from the palm of one hand like a paper airplane. To meet this vital requirement, the ANAFI USA drone is operational in less than 55 seconds - including unfolding, ignition, establishing the secure radio connection and take-off.ĪNAFI USA operates inside a building without GPS, allowing it to be launched in a room and then sent outside through a window, before returning to the starting point when the mission is complete. The most demanding first aid teams and professional users need to be able to deploy a drone to the area very quickly. Parrot has succeeded in meeting this challenge by combining the gimbal with 3-axis digital stabilisation, obtained via image processing. Image stabilization with a 32x zoom represents a real technological challenge on such a light drone (500 g). Thanks to the powerful zoom of ANAFI USA, the pilot is able to detect heat anomalies present on a precise area of a solar panel, at the centimeter scale. In the example image below, the drone flies over solar panels at an altitude of 40m. This allows operators to easily locate hot spots with the thermal camera, while distinguishing people on site and any other important details in the image visible from up to 2 km away. The zoom image obtained is merged with those obtained by the FLIR Boson camera from ANAFI USA. ANAFI USA can pinpoint details as small as 1 cm at a distance of 50 m, with precision. The 32x zoom is built around two 21 megapixel cameras allowing operators to see the scene in great detail from up to 5 km away. The ANAFI USA GOV Edition UAV's state-of-the-art gimbal and lenses were designed with this in mind. When arriving at a scene, firefighters need to see particularly critical areas and get an accurate picture of the overall situation. Hospitals Hospitalįounded by Third Order of St. Īdditional Steward services include Steward Health Choice, a managed risk platform which covers lives in Arizona and Massachusetts. Steward comprises Steward Medical Group and Steward Health Care Network, its network of primary care and specialty providers. The System has also worked with payers to negotiate patient group-oriented budget pricing. Consistent with this model, the System had taken steps to reduce the direction of surgical patients toward teaching hospitals in the Boston area. Steward intended to become a low-price leader in the provision of high quality care. In May 2023, Steward completed the sale of its five Utah hospitals to CommonSpririt Health. In April 2022, Steward acquired the former Miami Medical Center property from Nicklaus Children’s Health System. In August 2021, Steward closed a $1.1 billion deal to acquire five South Florida hospitals from Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare. In February 2018, Steward announced that its top management will move to Dallas, Texas from Boston. In October 2017, Steward completed its acquisition of eighteen Iasis Healthcare hospitals in a deal that was reportedly for $2 billion. The merger made Steward the parent organization to thirty six hospitals across ten states, with revenues of nearly $8 billion. In May 2017, Steward announced a proposed merger with Iasis Healthcare, headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, making Steward the largest private for-profit hospital operator in the United States. In February 2017, Steward Health Care acquired eight hospitals from Community Health Systems, including three hospitals in Ohio, two in Pennsylvania and three in Florida. The deal became final in September, 2017. Steward said Medical Properties Trust would buy all of its hospital properties for $1.2 billion, lease the properties back to Steward, and pay $50 million for a five percent equity stake in the company. Steward lined up $1.25 billion from a real estate investment firm that will help the Boston-based company finance a national expansion, pay off debt, and return money to the private equity firm that bought it in 2010. In September 2016, The Boston Globe reported Steward Health Care System had made a deal to expand its operations. The company covers approximately three million full-risk patients through its integrated care network, hospitals, managed care and health insurance services in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. In June 2020, Steward became the nation's largest physician-owned health care system, after Steward physicians acquired a 90 percent controlling interest in the company. Steward Health Care was started by Ralph de la Torre, when Caritas Christi Health Care system was sold to the private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management in 2010 after the transaction, Caritas was converted to a for-profit company and renamed Steward Health Care. Steward Health Care is led by CEO Ralph de la Torre, a Cuban-American physician, engineer and cardiac surgeon. Headquartered in Dallas, Steward's integrated health care model employs 40,000 people at thirty-three hospitals and hundreds of urgent care, skilled nursing, and primary and specialty care medical practice locations across eight states. Steward Health Care is the largest physician-owned private for-profit health care network in the United States and attends to 2.2 million people during more than twelve million physician and hospital visits annually.
